CTET Passing Marks for OBC, SC, ST & PwD: What Each Employer Accepts

By EasyCTET Research Team · Last checked against official notifications:

CBSE sets one qualifying mark for CTET: 60%, which is 90 out of 150, for every category.

CBSE does not set a lower mark for OBC, SC, ST or PwD candidates. Any relaxation is decided by the employer you apply to. Where an employer allows 55%, the minimum is 83, not 82.

What CBSE says

Clause 9 of the CTET Information Bulletin (September 2026) quotes NCTE Notification No. 76-4/2010/NCTE/Acad dated 11.02.2011:

"A person who scores 60% or more in the TET exam will be considered as TET pass. School managements (Government, local bodies, government aided and unaided) may consider giving concessions to person belonging to SC/ST, OBC, differently abled persons, etc., in accordance with their extant reservation policy."

In other words, your CTET result counts as "pass" at 60%. A lower mark only works with an employer whose recruitment rules allow it.

Employer-wise: minimum CTET marks by category

Find the recruitment you are applying to. Marks are out of 150. Where a notification allows relaxation "up to 5%", the table shows the lowest score that relaxation allows.

The relaxed minimum is 83, not 82, because 55% of 150 is 82.5 and CTET scores are whole numbers. For DSSSB Assistant Teacher (Primary), Advt. 05/2025 allows "relaxation up to 5% in the qualifying marks (academic relaxation)" to SC/ST/OBC/PH candidates. DSSSB's Special Educator advertisement (03/2026) applies the same relaxation explicitly "in CTET". Every notification can change, so always read the one you are applying under.

Scored between 83 and 89? What to do next

  1. List the jobs you actually plan to apply for, such as KVS, DSSSB, BPSC TRE or a private school.
  2. Check each one in the table above, or in its notification. If each of them relaxes to 55% for your category, and your category certificate is the type it asks for, your current score works.
  3. If even one requires 60%, such as KVS and NVS for regular PRT and TGT posts, plan to appear again and aim for 90 or above. Your CTET certificate is valid for life, and CBSE allows a qualified person to appear again to improve their score.

Frequently asked questions

Is 82 marks pass in CTET for OBC candidates?

CBSE treats 60% (90 out of 150) as CTET pass for every category. Employers may relax this for reserved categories, usually by up to 5%, which means 55%. 55% of 150 is 82.5, so where an employer allows 55%, you need at least 83. Under the KVS/NVS, DSSSB and BPSC TRE notifications checked on this page, 82 is not enough for an OBC candidate.

Is the 55% relaxation 82 marks or 83 marks?

83. 55% of 150 is 82.5, and CTET scores are whole numbers, so the lowest score that reaches 55% is 83. Recruitment notifications state the relaxation as a percentage, not as 82 marks.

Do I need to retake CTET if I scored between 83 and 89?

Only if a job you want does not relax the mark for your category. For example, the KVS and NVS notification of 2025 states no relaxation for regular PRT and TGT posts. The CTET certificate is valid for life, and CBSE allows a qualified person to appear again to improve their score.
